Bapdoduk (Rice thief — food so good you overeat rice)

"Bapdoduk" literally means "rice thief." It's an affectionate term for a dish so delicious, usually savory, salty, or spicy, that it makes you eat far more rice than you intended, as if the food is "stealing" bowl after bowl of rice from you. Classic examples include ganjang-gejang (soy-marinated crab), salted seafood (jeotgal), grilled fish, and spicy stir-fries. Calling something a bapdoduk is high praise in Korean food culture, where a great side dish is judged by how much rice it makes you want to eat.
("This jeotgal is a total rice thief — one more bowl of rice!") ("Mom's soy-braised beef is a real rice thief.")
